THE TOAST POST: How to Make Epic Toast (Recipe • Vegan)

If you follow me on IG, you know I love my toast.

My toasts can get WEIRD sometimes (see above). But they are always, always delicious.

The key to my toast is the fork.

Yes, the fork. B/C it’s all about the mashing.

I always make two slices: one sweet, the other savory. Usually on sourdough.

It goes like this:

THE SWEET:

  1. Take half a banana.
  2. Mash (w/ fork) on bread.
  3. Take a couple berries.
  4. Place them on top of mashed banana.
  5. Scoop out a spoonful of nut butter.
  6. Place on top of fruit.
  7. Toast in toaster oven (I like it slightly burnt).

THE SAVORY:

  1. Take 1/4 of an avocado.
  2. Mash (w/ fork) on bread.
  3. Sprinkle salt & chili flakes on avo.
  4. Toast until slightly burnt.

Q&A WITH MYSELF B/C I FEEL LIKE YOU MIGHT HAVE THESE QUESTIONS:

Why do you put the nut butter on top of everything, instead of on the bottom?

Because I feel like you can taste more of it. The flavor tends to get buried when it’s spread on the bottom. It also looks prettier. hehe.

Why do you mash the fruit?

Because you can add more toppings when it’s mashed as opposed to when it’s in small pieces.

What are some other things you put on the sweet toast?

Dried fruit (cherries, figs, dates), tahini, (dairy-free) yogurt, (dairy-free) cream cheese, cinnamon, nutmeg

What are some other things you put on the savory toast?

Nutritional yeast, salsa, kimchi, vegan cheese, mashed beans, hummus
